As if purchasing light fixtures wasn't stressful enough, now you gotta hang them! The guide below will help you with everything you need when it comes to hanging light fixtures in your home. Keep in mind that these are general rules, and they may vary depending on the size of the space and/ or fixture.
Note: the rules below are for based on 8' ceilings. For higher ceilings, add 3" for every additional foot of height
KITCHEN PENDANTS
2 pendants over kitchen island
- Minimum of 30" from the centre of the island
- 32"-36" from the countertop to the bottom of the light fixture for an 8' ceiling
3 pendants over kitchen island
- Minimum of 6" from the edges of the island
- 30"-32" apart
- 32"-36" from the countertop to the bottom of the light fixture for an 8' ceiling
CHANDELIER OVER DINING TABLE
- Minimum of 6" from the edges of the table
- 32"-36" from the table top to the bottom of the light fixture for an 8' ceiling
CHANDELIER IN A TWO-STORY SPACE
- 6" from the ceiling
- Ensure light is hung no lower than the second level
BEDROOM PENDANT OR CHANDELIER
- A minimum 7' from the ceiling
- If directly over bed, fixture can be slightly lower
