Easter is one of my favourite times of year (it's right next to Christmas in my books!). Coming from a Polish family, this time of year is filled with so many traditions that are near and dear to my heart; dying eggs in onion peels is one of them. I decided to step it up a notch this year, and add some fun stencils using herbs and flowers, and I LOVE how they turned out!! I tried a few different versions but parsley, hydrangeas, pampas grass and greenery with tiny flowers work best. I encourage you to play around and try different options. Let me know what works best for you!

What you'll need

Eggs
Vinegar
Old nylon stocking
Herbs and/or flowers
Onion skins
Saucepan

What you need to do

1. Place herbs and flowers flatly on each egg

herbs and plants lying on counter

2. Cut a piece from the leg of an old pair of nylon stockings. Wrap it around the egg and tie the end. This will keep the herb or flower in place.

3. Fill a saucepan with about 1 cup of onion skins

4. Cover with water

5. Add one tablespoon of vinegar

6. Place eggs gently into saucepan

7. Bring to a light boil - if it boils too abruptly the eggs may crack - and boil for 15-20 minutes

8. Leave eggs in onion skins while cooling

9. Once cool, remove nylon and herb/ flower, and you're done!

I've done the same using beets (for a light pink colour), turmeric (for a light yellow colour) and blueberries (for a blue colour), however the onion skins are my favourite. Since my mom and Babcia always did the same, so they're definitely a little nostalgic.

You can place the eggs in a bowl or basket for decor. I love to use them as part of my Easter tablescape (I'll share that soon), although they look too pretty to eat!
