I'm really excited about this update, because we’re making such great progress on the house! We’re more than halfway through framing, and the crew is moving faster than expected, which as I'm sure you know, is totally a win when it comes to construction! This week, they're tackling the trusses, so the roof is coming together, and you can finally see the house taking shape.
I’m excited about the roof’s hand cut “swoops” (as I like to call them), which our architect/builder Nick and I have been discussing for a VERY long time - aka I've been driving him crazy about roof "swoops" for over a year now LOL. They truly add to the character of our home, and I cannot wait to see them take shape. Once the framing is done, we’ll move on to windows, shingles, and brick to complete the exterior of the home
Right now, I’m finalizing all the details. I’m selecting brick for the exterior, keeping in mind that we’ll be staining it, so for me, texture and size is key - colour isn’t important. I had two samples stained, and while the variations in texture are minimal once stained, I think we have a winner. The house won’t look cohesive until spring when everything is stained—so the neighbours might be questioning my choices for a bit LOL.
While framing is wrapping up, I am finalizing all of the design choices for the interior as well and I'm not going to lie, I'm struggling with some of the spaces. I have a very clear vision of the main floor, which is great, but I still haven't found any inspiration for the kids rooms that gets me excited. I'm hoping it comes soon because my final tile selections are due in a few weeks and I want to ensure their bathrooms flow well with their bedrooms - the first world struggle is real LOL. Along with tile, I'll also be looking at hardwood shortly. I'll be sure to take you along as I finalize my selections for all the flooring!
Besides all of the action above, I'm continuing to work with Bloomsbury on all of the millwork and it's going to be SO GOOD! The kitchen is pretty much finalized, which is where I always like to begin, because as corny as it may sound, it truly is the "heart of the home". I find the kitchen always sets the tone for the design decisions I make in the rest of the home. I also placed my order for our exterior lanterns - they’re so pretty! Just a quick tip, if you’re building or renovating: if you’d like to install gas lanterns, let your builder know early on, as they need to ensure to run the gas line where you’ll need it.Lastly, we started filming our home build series!! It won't be released until the new year, but it'll be fun for us to look back on, and have as a memory - something I wish we did when I was building our first home. I'm also looking forward to sharing with you some more behind the scenes and getting Joe on camera!
That's all I have for you right now. I hope you're enjoying following along our home build. If there is anything else you'd like me to share throughout this process, let me know below.
